Chelsea and Tottenham shared the spoils in a turgid encounter at Stamford Bridge. How did each player for the Blues do against Spurs?

Chelsea and Tottenham nullified one another of the course of 90 minutes. If fans were looking for a spectacular title race bout, that was not what occurred. Still, several Chelsea players showed their talent against one of the toughest sides the Blues have faced yet. How did everyone fair?

Edouard Mendy, Keeper, France: 8.5

Mendy was alert throughout the game. His distribution was decent and he maintained his composure at the back. He made a couple of brilliant saves as he stopped a thunderous volley and got his hand on a delicious cross from Son Heung-Min in the second half. Due to the nature of Mourinho’s tactics, Mendy wasn’t involved much as Spurs chose to sit back. However, whatever he did, he did it well and Chelsea looked strong at the back.

Reece James, Right back, England: 7.5

Reece James put in another strong shift as he marshalled up and down the right flank. The young Englishman put in an industrious performance and always seemed confident on the ball. His crosses were also great and two of them even had the potential to become goals, however, Tammy Abraham’s finishing was rather average and both chances were wasted. Throughout the game, James did all the right things and bossed his flank as players like Sergio Reguilon had to resort to some “interesting methods” to draw (or shout) fouls.

Kurt Zouma, Centerback, France: 7.0

Kurt Zouma was dominant in the air, as always. He looked defensively sound and make some crucial interceptions as well in the box. What is impressive that Zouma is slowly growing into his role at the club and he seems to be enjoying responsibility. Against Spurs, Zouma was one of the man reasons behind the fact that Son and Kane were invisible for the whole game. However, Zouma’s knack of making mistakes on crucial junctures was visible again as Zouma almost gifted the match to Spurs by misplacing a pass in injury time.

Thiago Silva, Centerback, Brazil: 8.5

Thiago Silva has been one of Chelsea’s most crucial signings in recent years. He has brought a fresh wave of confidence and composure in Chelsea’s defense. Throughout the game, Silva kept moving into pockets of space to cover up the distance vacated by Ben Chilwell. While this is Silva’s first season in the Premier League, he seems at home and has been bullying forwards for a large part of this season.

Ben Chilwell, Left back, England: 7.5

Ben Chilwell was very tired in the previous game and was evident that he needs some more time. The Englishman has been playing consistent football and he needs some rest. Against Spurs, Chilwell didn’t really look threatening, however, he was clean on the ball and kept things going. Overall, a decent performance from Lampard’s trusted left back.

N’Golo Kante, Holding midfielder, France: 8.0

N’Golo Kante has become one of the most vital cogs of Frank Lampard’s Chelsea. His presence at the base of midfield allows the whole team to move forward as one unit. After some mediocre performances from our double pivots, Kante has brought a different dimension to this team. Spurs were unable to get past Kante on multiple occasions and he ensured that their forwards don’t get too much space or wander around.

Mateo Kovacic, Central midfielder, Croatia: 8.0

Due to the buzz of Chelsea’s new signings, people forgot about the impact of Chelsea’s Player of the Year, Mateo Kovacic. Against Spurs, Kovacic was extremely lively and moved forward with real intent. As Lampard continues to find the right balance, he must consider Kovacic for a position as the Croat seems to bring a whole new identity to this team.

Mason Mount, Central Midfielder, England: 9.0

Mason Mount is an absolute workhorse. The man is the heartbeat of everything that happens on the pitch for Chelsea. From dropping deep at left back for initiating attacks to pressing alone at the top, Mount never stops. He was all over the pitch against Spurs and came the closest to scoring. His brilliant shot was saved by a flying Hugo Lloris.

Hakim Ziyech, Right winger, Morocco: 7.0

Mourinho was able to keep Ziyech quiet for major chunks of the game. The Moroccan wasn’t able to get onto his left foot to create chances. Spurs always had a man following Ziyech and choked him for space.

Tammy Abraham, Striker, England: 6

Tammy Abraham was poor throughout the game. His finishing was wasteful and he got dominated by the Spurs backline. When you play a defensive team like Spurs, you have to capitalize on the chances that you get. Abraham failed to do that as he wasn’t clinical enough.

Timo Werner, Left winger, Germany: 6.5

Timo Werner has been tired for a while. It was evident in the Rennes game and it was on display against Spurs as well. He needs a rest soon as he just seems off his game inside the box. Werner didn’t create too many chances against Spurs and wasn’t able to weave through their well drilled defense.

Christian Pulisic, Substitute, United States: 7.0

Christian Pulisic was lively after coming on in the 74th minute. He kept having a go at the Lilywhites but couldn’t surpass their determined defense. Chelsea’s American wonder kid is finally back and seems ready.

Olivier Giroud, Substitute, France: 7.0

Olivier Giroud could have been given more minutes in this game. After coming on, Giroud looked sharp but he couldn’t find a way through either. However, he did get a chance towards the end due to Rodon’s poor header. But Giroud’s chip went straight into the hands of his national team captain, Hugo Lloris.

Kai Havertz, Substitute, Germany: N/A

Kai Havertz came on in the 83rd minute and it seemed that both sides had accepted a draw till then. He didn’t do much except a couple of neat passes.
