Chelsea v Tottenham: Premier League match preview

Hello, and welcome to football.london's live coverage of Chelsea vs Tottenham in the Premier League, direct from Stamford Bridge.

It's another battle between old friends as Frank Lampard and Jose Mourinho meet once more as managers, but there's plenty more at stake in this clash, with the winners going top of the Premier League.

Both sides enter the game on long unbeaten runs in the top division. Both sides last tasted defeat in the league back in September, with Spurs losing at home to Everton and Chelsea being put to the sword by Liverpool.

A draw for Jurgen Klopp's side yesterday at Brighton means either side can go top should they win today, while a draw will also see Jose Mourinho's team lead the division via goal difference.

We'll have all the build up to the clash, including early team news, confirmed line ups and more, plus live updates and analysis throughout.

An excellent cross by Werner and Abraham can't quite get enough on the ball. He's had some good chances now.

Wobbly moment from Chelsea

A long Bergwijn clearance causes problems at the back for the hosts as Son bears down on Mendy and the keeper ends up booting it out of play.

  • Share

Abraham chance

James is having some joy down the right and puts in another stunning cross. Abraham again doesn't do enough, though, and nods wide.

Abraham chance

Wonderful football by Chelsea and James whips in a cross. Abraham can only head wide, though. Should have done better.

Here are Alasdair's thoughts on that first half from Spurs

A cagey first half from both sides with perhaps Spurs looking slightly more dangerous when they break.

The visitors have been compact once again, albeit with Aurier and Reguilon having more licence to get forward than they did against Manchester City as they look to keep James and Chilwell busy.

Steven Bergwijn lifted that early shot over before Serge Aurier's effort was pushed wide by Mendy.

Spurs just need to get Kane and Son more into the game in the final third and they'll have that cutting edge.

The Tottenham defence has so far dealt with everything that's come their way and Lloris hasn't had much to do.

Joe Rodon's first Premier League start has brought a couple of nervy moments in possession but he's solid on the whole, with a couple of important interceptions and headers.

He's also very vocal, telling Serge Aurier where he needs to be and calling on Son to press when required.

Tanguy Ndombele has the key to unlock Chelsea's midfield and he's shown it a couple of times with some lovely turns, but he just needs to find the right pass at the end of it.

Both teams can make important changes if required from the bench and it could well be a substitute who decides this match.

Half-time

Chelsea 0-0 Spurs

Chelsea break

Excellent break by Chelsea and the ball comes out to Ziyech, but his cross is too long to get to Werner. Wasted chance.

  • Share

Chilwell shot

Abraham does excellently to win a corner. It comes out to Ziyech, who crosses in and the ball is taken down by Chilwell. But he smashes it over the bar.

  • Share

Kane free-kick

Sergio Reguilon is tripped outside the box but it's quite far out and Kane sends his free-kick sailing over the bar.

  • Share

Mount shot

The Chelsea man makes a bit of space on the edge of the box and hammers in a shot, but it's over the bar.

  • Share

Chelsea not having it all their own way

Spurs are really putting Chelsea under pressure when they have the ball and Chelsea can't quite get any flow to their game right now.

Werner looking to get behind, but they are coming up a decent shape.

  • Share

Aurier shot

His low effort is pushed away by Mendy.

  • Share

Werner goal ruled out

Chelsea win the ball back and Mount slips in Werner. It's a superb finish by the German, in off the post. But the flag is up for offside. A VAR check, but the decision stands. No goal.

  • Share

Chance for Spurs

A quick break starting from Aurier's tackle, culminates in Bergwijn lifting a shot just over the crossbar.

  • Share

Vocal start from Joe Rodon

The young Welshman is telling Serge Aurier where he wants him to be and Son Heung-min when to close down Chelsea players.

  • Share

Ziyech shot

The ball bounces up to Ziyech who catches a sweet volley, but it is straight at Lloris to take.
