West Bromwich Albion recorded their first Premier League victory of the season on Saturday evening, defeating fellow strugglers Sheffield United 1-0 at the Hawthorns.

Despite the visitors having a plethora of golden opportunities to get themselves on the scoresheet, as they went in search of their first win of the season themselves, Chelsea loanee Conor Gallagher's impressive first half strike was enough to secure the Baggies their first league win of the season since returning to the top flight last term.

Whilst it was first win of the season for Slaven Bilic's troops, it was also a first-ever Premier League goal for Gallagher, who joined the Midlands outfit on loan from Chelsea back in September.

After a corner was only cleared as far as the edge of the box, Gallagher took it upon himself to strike a low ball into the bottom corner out of the reach of Blades goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.

Having started the Baggies' last five matches, Gallagher, who spent time on loan at both Charlton Athletic and Swansea City last season, will now be hoping to take his game to the next level after netting his first goal at Premier League level.

Though the central-midfielder is still learning his trade, he is highly-regarded at Stamford Bridge, with head coach Frank Lampard understood to be a big fan of the 20-year-old's talents.

Having impressed against the Blades, Gallagher will now be hoping to kick-on and cement himself in Lampard's thoughts for next season once his season-long loan spell at the Hawthorns comes to an end and he returns to Stamford Bridge.

In the past, no shortage of Chelsea youngsters have benefited from spells out on loan, such as the likes of Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham.

Mount spent the 2018/19 season on loan at Derby County whilst Abraham enjoyed spells with both Bristol City and Aston Villa.

But Gallagher holds one major advantage over those two ahead of next season, with him having already been handed the chance to test himself at Premier League level.

And with that in mind, no shortage of Chelsea supporters have been raving about his match-winning performance against the Blades this evening.

Here is how some of them have reacted on Twitter...

Since the start of last season, which first saw him join Charlton on loan, Gallagher has proven to be a creative source from the centre of the park.

In 54 appearances since the start of last term, taking into account his time at Charlton, Swansea and West Brom, the midfielder has scored seven goals and registered 11 assists.
