Former Arsenal player Paul Merson has urged Chelsea to sign Brighton duo Marc Cucurella and Yves Bissouma.

Summer signing Cucurella and stalwart Bissouma have been one of Albion's best players this season.

The Spaniard signed on a five-year deal from Getafe for £15m and the wing-back has been outstanding so far.

The Mali international, who is heading off to the African Cup of Nations this week, led the way for tackles and interceptions last term and he is right up there again this time out.

The 25-year-old has attracted interest from Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United, and more, and Cucurella, who was linked with the Blues in the past, is gaining a growing number of plaudits with every game that passes.

Now Sky Sports pundit Merson has called on Thomas Tuchel's men to sign the Seagulls stars, who were excellent in Albion's 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge on December 29.

Left-back Ben Chilwell looks like he could be out for the season with a knee ligament injury and Cucurella's name has been put forward by some to fill that hole.

Neither are likely to leave Brighton in the January transfer window, but that hasn't stopped individuals calling on clubs to sign them.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Merson said: "Chelsea were flying but it’s different now, they’re struggling.

"I went the other night (against Brighton), you watch Man City play and it’s ping, ping, ping. You watch Chelsea and it’s hard.

"They got well beat the other night. They drew but Brighton were outstanding.

"If I was Chelsea I would go and get Cucurella, I would definitely go and get him and I would get Bissouma.

"I know people will say they play for Brighton, they were the best two players on the pitch in my opinion. Chelsea are stuck in treacle at the moment."
