Chelsea headed into Sunday's 2-2 draw against Liverpool down both starting fullbacks who were ruled out through injury.

Ben Chilwell will miss the rest of the season while Reece James is likely to be out for two months.

With the January transfer window officially open, the Blues are likely to try and find a short-term replacement for one or both players as they look to retain their Champions League trophy while battling for the Premier League and FA Cup.

The club could target Everton's Lucas Digne and Atletico Madrid's Kieran Trippier to plug the gaps, while one high-profile pundit has told Thomas Tuchel exactly who he should be looking to sign.

Here are all the latest Chelsea transfer rumours.

Trippier blow

Atletico Madrid have no intentions of letting defender Kieran Trippier go without a fight, it is claimed.

Trippier's ability to not only play at right and left-back but also as a wing-back on both sides of the pitch is a huge bonus for Thomas Tuchel as he looks to navigate the second-half of the campaign without Ben Chilwell and Reece James.

Chelsea face stiff competition from Premier League side Newcastle United but speaking before Atletico's first game of the new year, manager Diego Simeone made his stance clear on whether or not Trippier is available.

"He is an important player for our team and we coaches can't do too much in terms of players' decisions," said Simeone [via Daily Express ]. "We can only tell Trippier how important he is for the team."

Calls to sign Brighton duo

Chelsea were far from their best in the midweek draw against Brighton and Hove Albion.

Though it took a last-minute Danny Welbeck goal to salvage a point for the Seagulls, they were impressive throughout and two players in particular caught the eye of Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson

Merson thinks the Blues should sign defender Marc Cucurella and midfielder Yves Bissouma.

"Chelsea were flying but it’s different now, they’re struggling," Merson told Sky Sports [via Metro ].

"I went the other night [against Brighton], you watch Man City play and it’s ping, ping, ping. You watch Chelsea and it’s hard. They got well beat the other night. They drew but Brighton were outstanding.

"If I was Chelsea I would go and get Cucurella, I would definitely go and get him and I would get Bissouma. I know people will say they play for Brighton, they were the best two players on the pitch in my opinion."

Blues favourites for 'striker's dream'

Chelsea are the 'favourites' to sign Everton full-back Lucas Digne, it is claimed.

Digne looks set to leave Everton after falling out with Rafa Benitez, who appears to have already signed his replacement after welcoming Vitaliy Mykoleno to the club.

Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell recently described Digne as a "striker's dream" and he is reportedly also being tracked by Newcastle United and Paris Saint Germain.

But despite clubs clamouring for his signature, GiveMeSport claims Chelsea are the frontrunners to tie up the French full-back this month.
