Chelsea vs Man Utd Player Ratings: Sancho Scores in Stalemate

Jadon Sancho scored his first Premier League goal for Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon as they held Chelsea to a 1-1 draw.

The former Borussia Dortmund man capitalised on a calamitous error by Italian midfielder Jorginho, breaking through one-on-one up against Chelsea ‘keeper Edouard Mendy, before finishing cooly to open the scoring.

Jorginho made up for his mistake by converting a penalty later on in the second half to draw the scores level as Chelsea and Man United shared the points.

The hosts tried to push for a late winner, including a glorious chance right at the death for Antonio Rudiger but they could not breakthrough.

It was a fascinating match in London here as Thomas Tuchel’s side controlled possession, whilst Michael Carrick’s side were set up to absorb the pressure and hit on the counter. So, let’s get into our player ratings for this one.

Chelsea

Edouard Mendy – 5

Did not have much to do here but made an error late on when he gave the ball straight to Fred. He was lucky that he did not capitalise on the opportunity.

Trevoh Chalobah – 7

Solid day at the back for Chalobah here as the defender looked comfortable.

Thiago Silva – 7.5

Controlled tempo from the back well and put in a solid performance at the back as he continues his fine form.

Antonio Rudiger – 7

Would often drive forward with the ball when the opportunity presented itself to try and progress the Chelsea play forward. Smacked the crossbar with a ferocious effort from range and also skyed a golden opportunity late on to snatch a winner.

Reece James – 7

Was not quite at the usual high level of late but still put in a very solid performance here, not getting troubled defensively. He put a few good balls into the box but nobody could get on the end of them. Switched over to left wing-back late on.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek – 6.5

Looked fairly solid throughout with some nice touches and passes. Used his physicality well and also played progressively.

Jorginho – 7

Looked creative from deep with a couple of nice through balls. Controlled tempo from deep as usual but made an error that led to the United opening goal, miscontrolling the ball as the last man back. Scored the equalizer and made up for his mistake by converting from the spot but still gets marked down here due to his error.

Marcos Alonso – 6.5

Positive in his play and looked to push forward often. His influence dwindled as the game went on but was fairly solid before being subbed off for Mason Mount.

Hakim Ziyech – 7.5

Had a shot on target early on, saved comfortably by De Gea. Looked sharp in places and was a threat at times, picking up the ball in dangerous positions and creating a couple of chances.

Callum Hudson-Odoi – 7.5

Glorious chance inside the opening three minutes that was saved well by De Gea. Looked bright early on, was sharp and creative at times down the left. Another good performance here.

Timo Werner – 6

Had a great chance when the ball fell to him inside the area following a corner in the second half but caught the ball wrong and put it wide. Also had the ball in a dangerous position inside the area but Wan-Bissaka made a good block.

Manchester United

David De Gea – 6

Made a couple of decent saves early on to deny efforts from Ziyech and Hudson-Odoi but did not have too much to do throughout the match.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 6

Struggled a little with the threat down the Chelsea left flank but recovered as the game went on. Gave away the penalty for a challenge on Thiago Silva but made a good block to deny Werner inside the area. Inconsistent performance.

Victor Lindelof – 7

Looked a little dodgy early on as it looked like United’s defense would wobble once again but he recovered and was fairly solid for the rest of the match.

Eric Bailly – 7

Dispossessed poorly which led to a Chelsea counter in the first half but was fairly solid at the back and did not many any errors that he is usually accustomed to.

Alex Telles – 7

Defended fairly solidly here and did well to limit the threat of Reece James throughout the match.

Fred – 7

Made a good couple of challenges in the midfield and also played a nice ball over the top for Sancho in the first half but he could not get it under full control before Mendy was there to collect. Looked good on the counter, breaking in the midfield and put in a decent performance here.

Nemanja Matic – 6.5

Looked to add more stability and structure in the center of midfield for United today. Defended well and won some good challenges in the midfield.

Scott McTominay – 6.5

Battled hard and made a couple of decent challenges but looked a little sloppy.

Jadon Sancho – 7.5

Made a decent run in behind just before half time but could not quite get it under control. Good pass into Rashford on the counter just before half time as he started to get into the match more. Capitalised on a Jorginho error to open the scoring and kept good composure, finishing cooly and fooling Mendy with a nice drop of the shoulder.

Bruno Fernandes – 6

Not at his best here today but did provide the assist for Sancho’s goal with a big punt up field.

Marcus Rashford – 5.5

Booked for a late sliding challenge on Chalobah early in the second half and did not to do too much going forward for United here.
