Manchester United put their worries to one side to hold Premier League leaders Chelsea to a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge on Sunday thanks to a Jadon Sancho breakaway goal that was cancelled out by a Jorginho penalty.
Chelsea, seeking to maintain their lead at the top of the table over Manchester City and Liverpool, dominated the first half against a United side playing their first Premier League match under caretaker manager Michael Carrick.
The Blues were punished for failing to turn possession into goals five minutes after the restart when United cleared and Jorginho, alone on the halfway line, took a heavy touch and Sancho raced past him to beat the helpless Edouard Mendy.
Chelsea were rocked by the goal against the run of play but Jorginho made up for his error in the 69th minute when he coolly converted a penalty after Aaron Wan-Bissaka fouled Thiago Silva.
The hosts pushed for a winner and should have got it with the last kick of the match, but Antonio Rudiger blazed over as Chelsea were forced to settle for a draw and just a one-point cushion at the top of the table.

“I don’t think it was a penalty at all.
“They have had a lot of shots - David had two saves which we knew before the game he would have to make one or two. Other than that I have felt quite comfortable in the game.
“Of course we want to be better in terms of getting the ball. I am not getting carried away but I thought we defended ever so well. I cannot fault the boys one bit.”

“Disappointed actually. When you are in front in a game like this to have it taken away is disappointing. I’m immensely proud of the players and the whole group all week.
“In a difficult situation we tried to make the best of it. Can’t hide from that, it’s been tough at times.
“But there is that little bitter feeling. We came to win the game, we had a plan, and we were positive in our mindset and attitude for that.
“A little disappointed, I can’t lie.”
Tuchel on dropping two points
“It can happen in football, unfortunately it happened twice to us, it also happened against Burnley,” Tuchel tells BBC Sport.
“I am absolutely happy with the performance. We dominated from the first minute, we were aggressive and never stopped attacking. Unfortunately we scored two goals, one for each side.”
