Chelsea V Man United Premier League Match Preview

Welcom to football.london's Chelsea live blog on Sunday!

It is matchday in west London and Manchester United are the visitors to Stamford Bridge as Chelsea look to keep their place at the top of the Premier League table for another week.

Michael Carrick will take charge in the away dugout and it will likely be the last time he does so with highly-rated German Ralf Rangnick set to be appointed until the end of the campaign next week.

Liverpool thrashed Southampton 4-0 on Saturday to move to within a point of Thomas Tuchel's men while Manchester City could even move ahead of the Blues with a win against West Ham.

But with January just around the corner, we will not be focusing solely on matchday content. Transfer rumours continue to swirl around the club and there is sure to be plenty to digest throughout today.

So sit back and let football.london keep you posted with everything that happens.

Werner slammed

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has described Timo Werner's performance as "really poor" as Chelsea drew 1-1 with Manchester United.

Werner made his return from a month-long injury this evening, but was unable to find the back of the net despite some big chances in front of goal.

Hasselbaink, when speaking on Sky Sports, said this on the German forward: "Poor. Really poor. On the ball, off the ball the runs, normally he’s sharp but at the end of the day you’re a number 9 and you will be judged on your opportunities and what you do with them.

"But he keeps on missing big chances whether it’s 0-0, 1-0. 1-1 you have to put them away."

Chalobah's future

Thiago Silva has claimed that youngster Trevoh Chalobah is the future of the club.

Speaking to Chelsea's official website.: “He is a player despite being so young who plays like an experienced professional and that makes me really happy because I’m there alongside him playing the same position and I can see how he’s performing, how he’s developing.

“Not just anybody can do this, can step up to a team like Chelsea and perform and he’s not doing it because of my help, he’s doing it because of his own abilities. He is a player who I knew from France where he was playing at a lower level for Lorient and he’s made the step up and he’s playing here because he deserves to."

Merson's prediction

Arsenal icon Paul Merson has predicted Chelsea to defeat Manchester United today.

"I can’t see anything but a Chelsea win here. They’ll squeeze and dominate the game, and they’ll probably have about 70% of the ball," he told Sportskeeda.

"Manchester United will set up with [Cristiano] Ronaldo up front, and he’s not running away from anybody.

"They need pace on the wings, and they need a player like [Edinson] Cavani to press Chelsea high up the pitch. As it stands, however, I think Chelsea will break them down comfortably."

Chelsea win predicted

Former Liverpool star Mark Lawrenson has predicted Chelsea to beat Manchester United today.

“Chelsea showed you can have a successful season with an interim manager when they won the FA Cup under Guus Hiddink in 2009, but it is a big call for Manchester United to go down that route,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.

“United’s track record when it comes to big decisions is hardly impressive recently, is it? Chelsea, meanwhile, seem to have made a very good one by appointing Thomas Tuchel at the start of the year.”
