Chelsea duo Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner have both been forced off injured in the first half of their side's clash with Malmo.

The Blues, who took the lead very early on through Andreas Christensen against the Swedish outfit, had the chance to double their tally when Lukaku was awarded a penalty after some fine work from the Belgian.

Jorginho converted from the spot to make it 2-0, but Lukaku then walked straight down the tunnel after landing awkwardly on his ankle, with Thomas Tuchel bringing on Kai Havertz to replace him.

Then, Werner joined Lukaku on the injury list, when the Germany international went down in the box clutching his hamstring, in what is another worry for Tuchel.

Tuchel spoke before the game about the Belgium international and listed fatigue as an issue when asked about his striker's recent form.

The Chelsea boss told BT Sport before the game: "We expect goals, he expects goals and we want to bring him into the positions but at the same time but my feeling is with him that he played in too many competitions.

"He is such a competitor, he will always give 100% when he plays for his country, he’s proud, he’s ambitious. He was not happy when they don’t win the Euros.

"I have no doubt in his quality. I have no doubt in his personality but things are not so easy for him right now because I think he played too much."

Lukaku was having a fine game for Chelsea prior to his injury, with the former Manchester United striker looking somewhat back to his best.

The winning of the penalty showed us just that, with the Blues star proving too strong for the Malmo defence, before going down in their box.

Werner, too, was showing his ability and proving a threat for Malmo's defence, with the German forward showcasing some fine form for Chelsea in recent weeks.

Tuchel will now be left to sweat to see if his strikers are fit enough to take part in Chelsea's Premier League clash with Norwich City at the weekend.

After that, it's Southampton in the Carabao Cup, before a visit to Newcastle United in the Premier League.
