Chelsea’s joy at an exhilarating attacking performance to dispatch Malmo 4-0 was quickly washed away by concern at the losses to injury of Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner.

On a damp night at Stamford Bridge, Thomas Tuchel’s side looked to amend assumptions that his side are more efficient than breathtaking with Liverpool and Manchester City grabbing the headlines despite the Blues sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League table.

While the German’s ideas remain a work in progress in the final third, he can rely on one of his cornerstones for inspiration. Mason Mount, returning to the starting line-up after coming on as a substitute against Brentford, predictably sparked a thrilling opening to this Champions League group-stage game with his wasp-like movement.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel speaking to BT Sport: "We wanted three points and wanted them deserved and we got both of those.

"We played to huge intensity, we demanded this from us and we played an excellent game until it was 4-0. We are very happy.

"We have a twist of the ankle for Romelu, and muscle injury and hamstring for Timo, so they will be some days out I guess.

"Normally we are in a good place injury wise, only Christian Pulisic is out, but we miss everybody. We have a lot of games, lot of competitions, so now we have to deal and find solutions, no excuses.

"The two were in good shape, they are dangerous and can create and score so now we need to find solutions and guys who waited for their chance need to step up and score. The race is on, the guys who start against Norwich have our trust and we will try to find new solutions.

'We have won games before with Werner and Lukaku, we don't want these problems too often but it happens during a season."

Chelsea secured a resounding group-stage victory over Malmo in the Champions League on Wednesday night, thrashing the Swedish side 4-0 at Stamford Bridge.

Here’s how each Chelsea player fared in the team’s Group H victory.

Chelsea move up to six points in Group H and are now in second place behind Juventus, who beat Zenit St Petersburg 1-0 thanks to a late Dejan Kulusevski goal.

Chelsea have a three-point advantage over Zenit, while Malmo remain pointless with three defeats from three.

As comfortable a win as you can dream to get in the Champions League, sealed long before the final whistle. Apart from the injuries to Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner, it’s been a ideal night for Chelsea. Thomas Tuchel’s side performed well and clicked into gear as an attacking unit, with Mason Mount and Kai Havertz looking impressive.

90+1 mins: Havertz is slipped through on goal again but Diawara gets out well to make a brave stop. That should be that.

90 mins: A late free kick from Malmo is headed away by Silva. Chelsea look set for another clean sheet, and Mendy is still yet to make a save.

There will only be two minutes of added time.

85 mins: Havertz goes on a slaloming run after a lovely couple of touches before he is fouled. It sets up a free kick for Chelsea 30 yards from goal. Rudiger takes it but he slices it well wide.

81 mins: Mount clatters into a steward while attempting to keep the ball in play, but he looks to be ok - the steward that is.

Mount has been excellent tonight after not starting any of Chelsea’s previous five matches due to injury. Tuchel’s side are so clearly better when he’s in the team.

79 mins: Chelsea continue to flood forwards. The ball is again worked out to James, who looks to slip in Mount. His cross is blocked and from the resulting corner, Mount’s header at the back post goes wide.
