Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is the proud custodian of one of the world's most stunning yachts, worth almost £500million.

The yacht, named Solaris, is equipped with a helipad, a swimming pool, as well as 48 cabins

Solaris is the most expensive custom-made superyacht ever constructed and has space to sleep 36 guests, as well as 60 crew.

At 460ft long, it is over five times the size of a standard tennis court and 11 times bigger than a double decker bus.

Built in Bremerhaven, Germany, Solaris completed sea trials earlier in the year and was briefly berthed in Barcelona before moving across to Cape D'Ail near Monaco, and then Antibes.

It was also seen docking in Gibraltar in the summer.

The Solaris has a top speed of 18 knots (20mph) and is the most powerful yacht in the world, powered by two electric engines called Azipods.

The propellers inside the vessel mean a rudder isn't required and means it can turn easily.

As well as a helipad and a swimming pool, the eight-deck tall vessel also comes equipped with an outdoor 'beach club' at the aft section of the upper deck.

Gyms, saunas and a jacuzzi and at least one swimming pool also tend to come as standard on multi-million pound boats such as these, and if it's anything like the 530ft Eclipse, another yacht owned by Abramovich, it will also have a beauty salon.

According to the reports, Solaris also features a flotilla of 20 high-speed jet-skis, while it's rumoured that Abramovich may also invest in a personal submarine.

Interestingly, Solaris is believed to be one of the new 'Explorer' class of superyachts, which are built for more than just cruising around and looking stunning.

Such boats are built to cross seas and oceans, allowing their owners to show off to their friends in the summer of travelling to warmer climes in the winter.

Stewart Campbell, Editor-in-Chief of Boat International, told the Mail that many oligarchs are investing in superyachts which can also be used for scientific research.

He said: "Now, presumably with Solaris, the owner is thinking, 'Right, I want to be able to rub up against ice in Antarctic and see the Kamchatka Peninsula [in eastern Russia], or Patagonia'.

"All that kind of stuff that Eclipse just isn't the right boat for. It could do it, but Solaris is obviously tailormade for that kind of expedition."

With its stunning white finish, Solaris certainly looks the part, yet remarkably it's not even the most expensive yacht in Abramovich's collection.

That honour goes to Eclipse the 530ft long Eclipse, which cost £500million to build and has its own has a night club with dance floor along with all of the other toys that you might expect from such a lavish cruiser.
