John Terry has revealed he turned down the chance to move to Manchester City – although the decision didn’t turn out too badly for either party.

Back in 2009, it was reported that City were looking to sign the former Chelsea captain as they looked to build their team following the takeover by the Abu Dhabi United Group the year before.

The club had already demonstrated their financial clout as they brought in Carlos Tevez following his departure from Manchester United, and were looking to add more big names in their quest to become one of the top sides in Europe.

At the time, Terry was one of the hottest properties around, having established himself as one of the world’s best defenders.

And rumours at the time suggested that the former England captain was tempted at the prospect of swapping Chelsea for the blue side of Manchester.

Speaking to Keys & Gray The Podcast, though, Terry revealed that he had no intentions of leaving Chelsea.

“Man City made an offer for me, and I made very, very clear to Chelsea I didn’t want to go anywhere,” Terry said.

“If they see it differently and want to take the money, then I’d have to accept their decision, but I made it very clear to Chelsea, and ended up signing a new contract to show my commitment to the club.”

Despite missing out on landing Terry, City already had their influential defender in place from the previous summer.

“Man City were very keen at the time,” Terry added.

“I think they were looking for a leader, and by the way they didn’t do too badly when they didn’t get me and went and got Vincent Kompany who turned out to be an incredible signing.

“It turned out well for both clubs. I never wanted to go, and they got the man they probably wanted as well.”
