Chelsea ace Reece James and Manchester United stars Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire all suffered injuries on Saturday lunchtime.

It represents a major worry for England manager Gareth Southgate, as well as their clubs, ahead of the Three Lions' upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

Chelsea youth product James was withdrawn midway through the first half of his side's clash with Manchester City at Stamford Bridge with an apparent ankle issue.

Luke Shaw also had to exit the action in the first half of Manchester United's game against Aston Villa with a knock.

Maguire, meanwhile, limped off with what appeared to be a calf issue just after the hour mark.

England boss Southgate was watching Shaw and Maguire at Old Trafford and will be desperately hoping the injuries are not serious.

It remains to be seen what the extent of the injuries are for the England trio but with the international break so close, their participation for the Three Lions is a doubt.

England are set to face Andorra on October 9 and Hungary three days later in World Cup qualifying.

Although it's a blow for James, England are blessed with several outstanding right-backs and should be able to get through.

Left-back, however, is a different story.

Throughout Euro 2020, Shaw was a vital component as the Three Lions reached their first international tournament final since 1966.

A goal and three assists showcased his talents and Southgate, who was at the game, will certainly miss him should he fail to recover in time.

Maguire, meanwhile, is one of the most influential players in the England squad.
