Chelsea are still left in the dark over where they will be travelling to for this year's FIFA Club World Cup after Japan had to pull out of hosting duties due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Blues secured their spot after Thomas Tuchel led them to their second Champions League triumph, beating Manchester City 1-0 in the final in Porto.

At the moment, three sides are confirmed for the tournament, with Auckland FC and Al Ahly joining from New Zealand and Egypt, respectively.

Winners of the Copa Libertadores, the AFC Champions League and the winners of the CONCACAF Champions League are yet to be decided but will all enter, along with the winners of the host's national league.

The big problem is that nobody knows who that is yet.

South Africa have previously expressed an interest in hosting the tournament but concerns remain over coronavirus in the country, while Brazil are also considering an offer.

According to The Athletic, the United Arab Emirates have made a formal expression of interest in taking on hosting duties for the fifth time.

The final has previously been held in Abu Dhabi in 2009, 2010, 2017 and 2018.

Another report has hinted that the tournament could be moved to Qatar as a pre-cursor for next year's World Cup in the country, something that could be seen as a boost for Chelsea given the much shorter distance to travel than to Japan.

In their only previous appearance at the tournament in 2012, Chelsea were beaten 1-0 by Corinthians in the final during Rafa Benitez's brief stint in charge, with Gary Cahill seeing red.
