Chelsea looking to fortify their front line with a familiar face

Chelsea are reportedly lining up a second bid for Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku after their first bid was rejected by the Serie A side.

According to Goal, the Blues intend to make an improved €130 million offer for their former player. Chelsea’s pursuit of the Belgian international may be aided by Inter’s financial crisis. They’ve already sold Achraf Hakimi to PSG and lost manager Antonio Conte due to cost-cutting measures.

A report by ESPN states Inter already rejected a bid of €100 million plus Marcos Alonso.

Lukaku had been hesitant in accepting a move, stating his desire to stay with the Italian outfit. Hi stance has softened recently and while he would not mind staying, he would also be willing to leave if both sides can reach an agreement, according to The Telegraph.

Chelsea are in need of a striker as last season’s signing, Timo Werner, has not panned out as hoped. Not to mention the fact they sold Olivier Giroud to AC Milan.

Lukaku’s potential arrival is also set to let off a sort of domino affect. Needing a striker, Inter are reportedly going to go after Atalanta’s Duván Zapata. As a result, Atalanta will start talks with Chelsea over a possible move for Tammy Abraham.

He’s become somewhat of a cult figure at Inter with the supporters upset over the possibility of Lukaku leaving.  A sign was hung on a window outside of the club’s headquarters saying he was untouchable.

If a deal is reached, this will mark Lukaku’s third stint with the London side. He was there before being loaned out to West Brom, returned and was then sold to Everton. From there he joined Manchester United before moving on to Inter. At the moment it looks like a deal will happen sooner rather than later.
