Chelsea are confident of finalising a deal to bring Romelu Lukaku back to Stamford Bridge in the next week and have already reached an agreement with Inter Milan, according to reports.

Blues boss Thomas Tuchel has been in the market for a new striker since the transfer window opened and has been linked with moves for Lukaku and Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland.

As it became clear that the Bundesliga club would not countenance selling Haaland this summer, Chelsea turned their attention to the man who fired Inter Milan to Serie A glory last season.

Gazzetto dello Sport reported last week that Lukaku turned down an approach from the Blues to return to Stamford Bridge, but now a reunion is looking more and more likely.

According to Sky Sports, Lukaku has told Inter that he wants them to accept a suitable offer from Chelsea should one arrive during the transfer window.

Italian transfer guru Nicolo Schira also believes a deal is not far away.

He tweeted: "Chelsea are confident to sign Romelu #Lukaku from #Inter before the Euro Super Cup.

"The belgian striker is the main target for #Blues, which have offered to him a contract until 2026 (€15M/year).

Lukaku made 15 appearances during his first spell with Chelsea but failed to score a single goal for the club.

He was sold to Everton for £28million in 2014 and began to find the net with much more regularity, scoring 87 goals in 166 matches to earn a lucrative move to Manchester United.

Despite an impressive goalscoring record at Old Trafford - 42 goals in 96 appearances - he was moved on again in 2019, joining Inter Milan for a reported €80 million.

The 28-year-old enjoyed his best goalscoring season to date last season, hitting 30 goals in all competitions as Inter won Serie A for the first time in a decade.
