Barcelona wonderkid Ilaix Moriba is in a contract stand-off with the Catalan club and Chelsea are considering pouncing for the teenage midfielder.

The 18-year-old made his debut for Barca in January and went on to play 18 times in all competitions over the second half of last season, including 14 appearances in La Liga and one in the Champions League.

He is one of the brightest young talents to emerge at Barcelona in recent years but his future is in doubt after a change of representation and some substantial wage demands.

Forbes report that Moriba switched representation from his father to German agency ROGON and they are asking for a huge new deal for the teen, a contract that cash-strapped Barca are unwilling to provide.

According to Spanish publication SPORT Chelsea are capable of offering Moriba what he wants, in fact they can double or triple his Barcelona salary.

The Blues are reportedly considering whether to make a bid for the midfielder this summer, to get ahead of the competition, which includes Bayern Munich.

Alternatively they could wait for next summer and try and take Moriba on a free transfer, although wage demands could rise still further in those circumstances.

More negotiations are expected between Barcelona and ROGON, but the relationship is frosty at this stage with Moriba relegated to train with the reserves until he signs a new deal at the Camp Nou.

The deal on the table is reportedly worth €2.4m a year and the club do not plan on making an improved offer, so club and player remain locked at this point for now.
