Chelsea’s teenage defender Valentino Livramento is set to seal a move to Southampton after failing to agree new terms at Stamford Bridge.

Livramento, who has been heavily linked with a move to Brighton this summer, is set to move to the Saints after being impressed with their quick advances.

The youngster who is yet to make play a competitive game at senior level, can play as a full-back or wing-back and is now set to compete for a place in the starting line-up with the likes of Kyle Walker-Peters and Romain Perraud.

Livramento has entered his final year of his contract in west London and is only being allowed to move on as Chelsea want to receive a fee for him.

The deal is similar to the move that saw Tariq Lamptey move to Brighton two seasons ago. The player wanted to play senior football but didn’t feel like that was going to happen at Chelsea.

With the likes of Reece James, Ben Chilwell and Cesar Azpiliqueta ahead of Livramento in the pecking order, it is easy to understand why he would want to move on.

The 18-year-old has a buy-back clause in his contract which allows Chelsea to re-sign him for £25m, reports the Sun.

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has been in the market for another versatile full-back and Livramento suits those needs.

The young defender is not the first academy graduate to leave Chelsea this summer- Dynel Simeu has also left to join Southampton, while highly-rated midfielder Lewis Bate has joined Leeds United.
