Chelsea boss Tuchel wants more from Loftus-Cheek

Thomas Tuchel insists he wants more from Ruben Loftus-Cheek despite the midfielder’s encouraging return to action for Chelsea.

Loftus-Cheek, who spent last season on loan at Fulham, featured as the Blues won 2-1 at Arsenal in a friendly on Sunday afternoon.

Boss Tuchel said he has been happy with Loftus-Cheek’s contribution in training but believes the England international is capable of much better.

The German explained: “Generally I’m happy and that’s why he played – because he deserved to play.

“But I think he can do more. He can show up more. He can show more physical capability and drive more with the ball.

“I am never satisfied with him. I have a feeling that we need to push him to the absolute limit.”

Loftus-Cheek, 25, was finally enjoying a run in the Chelsea side when he suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon in May 2019.

He has struggled for fitness and form since and there has been speculation over his future, with his first-team prospects at Chelsea currently looking slim.

But Tuchel says no decision has been taken on Loftus-Cheek’s future and that he has a chance to prove himself

“It’s too early to judge Ruben. He has everything in his hands,” Tuchel said.

“It’s on him to decide his own future, like for every player.

“He has to keep on going 150% – 100 is not enough.”
