And Colwill, 18, is preparing to become the latest addition to the Premier League club's loan army.

According to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, the defender will soon extend his contract past its current 2023 expiry date.

Chelsea will then find a club in the Championship suitable for a loan spell to gain first-team experience.

Many inside the Blues academy rate Colwill as a star of the future.

Along with 18 appearances in the Under-23s' PL2 campaign, he appeared in the EFL Trophy, FA Youth Cup, and for England Under-17s last campaign.

The centre-back joined the Stamford Bridge outfit at the age of eight and stepped up to first-team training in May following an injury to Andreas Christensen.

Chelsea academy coach Andy Myers recently named Colwill among the youngsters who made great progress in the season just ended.

Myers told the club website: "It’s been a good season for development.

"It’s not been easy working around the pandemic but at the start of the season we had a group of academy boys training and supporting the first team and luckily enough, since restrictions have eased we've been able to allow more players over to join their bubble.

"Tino Anjorin has had an opportunity and has stayed over there for most of the year, Tino Livramento and Lewis Bate have had an opportunity and Levi Colwill also went over to join towards the end of the season.

"We have to give credit to the club and staff for finding a way to make sure these chances could still happen."
