Blues interested in Moreno

Chelsea are reportedly keeping tabs on Villarreal attacker Gerard Moreno.

According to Fichajes, the Spanish international has been added to the shortlist of potential strikers Thomas Tuchel could bring in this summer.

The Blues have been linked with Harry Kane and Erling Haaland in recent months. However, Moreno’s season has not gone unnoticed by the big clubs around Europe and he could be seen as an alternative.

The 29-year-old had a phenomenal campiagn under former Arsenal boss Unai Emery. In the season just gone, Moreno scored 30 goals and picked up 11 assists in all competitions. He also scored the opener in the Europa League final against Manchester United.

The report states that Chelsea will only move for the Spaniard if the deal for Haaland, who is described as the main priority, doesn’t go through.

Clarke backs Scotland return

Former Chelsea assistant coach Steve Clarke has promised Scotland fans they will not wait another 23 years to see their nation at a major tournament.

Speaking in his post-match press conference after their 3-1 loss to Croatia, the Scotland boss revealed his disappointment at not making it out of Group D.

‘It’s a disappointment,’ he said. ‘We’ll see what we can do better, and we’ll make sure it’s not 23 years until we go to the next tournament.

‘We tried as hard as we could. We kept going and we are disappointed the way the tournament has ended.’

The Scots ended their campaign with one point from a draw against England which saw Chelsea midfielder Billy Gilmour awarded Star of the Match.

‘We tried to compete,’ Clarke added. ‘Unfortunately, we were not quite good enough, but we’ll learn from it – head coach included.

‘We’re disappointed the way the tournament’s ended, but we’ve got a lot to be happy about. The way we got there after 23 years and the way we approached the tournament.’

Toure praises Kante

Yaya Toure has made a stunning assessment of why it is so difficult to get the ball off N’Golo Kante.

Writing in his column on The Athletic, the former Manchester City midfielder revealed it’s because of the Frenchman’s backside that opponents struggle to tackle him.

‘Kante can be very hard to get the ball off him when he uses his body in this way,’ Toure stated. ‘He is not the biggest player and already has a low centre of gravity.

‘When he sticks his bum out even lower to receive the ball from deep, tackling him must feel like trying to kick a stone.’

Kante had a fantastic end to the season with his performances in the Champions League and the Premier League.

According to the statistics website Whoscored.com, the Parisian only got dispossessed 15 times during the entire 2020/21 Premier League campaign.
