Chelsea Vs Arsenal - Match In Pictures

Well, that wasn't the ideal preparation for the FA Cup final. Chelsea were beaten 1-0 by Arsenal this evening in the Premier League meaning the race to finish in the Premier League top-four is still open.

The Blues never got close to their best at Stamford Bridge. The Gunners sat back and frustrated Thomas Tuchel's side and were ruthless when the hosts made a mistake.

That occurred in the opening period. An awful back pass from Jorginho forced Kepa Arrizabalga to paw the ball from away the goal line, but Arsenal sustained their attack and Emile Smith-Rowe converted what proved to be the winner from close range.

Chelsea struggled to create clear opportunities, although they did have good penalty shouts turned down in the second period and a Christian Pulisic goal was, rightly, ruled out for offside.

Tuchel was visibly irritated with his side's performance throughout the game and we will have his post-match thoughts below.

CHO and Giroud game time

This is how it is. You sign up for the toughest challenge. You can't let everybody start. Once I get the feeling they can help from the start they will get the start.

Kepa starting the FA Cup final?

We trust him and he deserves. That is the basis as to why he was in the line up. He is so close and good in training. We wanted to give him some minutes and take both games together

Similar to the West Brom game?

West Brom we were 1-0 up and then had 10 men. We weren't concentrated after the international break. It was a freak game in which we won the expected goals and statistics.

We all lacked concentration and focus today. That is unusual. Maybe I gave signals to the team with the changes that Saturday was on my mind. Even if it's 5% or 1% that isn't how we approach things and we got punished. It's a hard defeat to accept but there's no other way.

What do you put down the defeat to?

I don't know if we should've got a penalty for handball in front of the line to save a clear goal. It wasn't even checked. Then we concede a goal like this and we couldn't score our big chances. We werent on the pitch with the same energy, it wasn't easy to come up with the intensity and passing. We weren't sharp enough and didn't have the same hunger and attitude as we're used to playing with. So it's on us.

Thomas Tuchel to Sky

Totally our fault, nobody else's. We lost the game, it is our responsibility. We had huge chances, made more or less an own goal, a total gift. We were not sharp enough, couldn't put up the same energy as usual.

For me, maybe it was too many changes from the last match and I take responsibility for that. Maybe it is a wake-up call.

I felt it coming yesterday in training and it is unlucky it is proven today on the pitch.

Reece James to Sky Sports

We made a mistake and didn't take our chances, we only have ourselves to look at and to blame.

They are a good team, hard to break down. We had chances to put the game to bed early on and didn’t take them. It’s our own fault.

The games come thick and fast, players come in and out, players are at different stages. We put in 100 percent but need to understand that we will get tired sometimes.

Of course, the top four is tight but it doesn't affect us in a way, we are fighting to win every game and every competition we are in. The loss doesn't affect us. Obviously, it is disappointing to lose but we can take the negativity into tomorrow’s session and moving forward.
