Chelsea to play Champions League final in Porto with fans after late UEFA switch

Rumours have raged all week, but with just 17 days to go until the Champions League final, it seems UEFA have decided on a venue for the big game.

As it stands, Chelsea expect to play Manchester City in Istanbul, which had originally been slated to host last year’s final before the pandemic derailed all those plans.

The last week has seen growing rumours that the game could be played in England, considering the identity of the finalists and the lockdown in place in Turkey.

But after all that, it looks like UEFA will setttle for Porto’s Estadio do Dragao.

Portugal has a “green light” in place with the UK for travel, meaning staff and players and media members, as well as potentially thousands of fans, can travel with little or no issues.

That, along with the facilities available in Northern Portugal and the positive coronavirus situation in the country has meant a late call – probably one that will end up being for the best.
