The Evening Standard‘s Chelsea coverage certainly went down a notch when their main man Simon Johnson was poached by The Athletic. They no longer have their inside sources, so the stories tend to be a little flavourless.
This week’s effort is a case in point. It’s all about Timo Werner, and can be broken down into a few simple elements.
Thomas Tuchel loves Erling Haaland, and is a “big admirer” of Sergio Aguero. Timo Werner, who has just 2 goals in his last 29 appearances, is growing increasingly out of favour with the coach, who has used a front 3 not featuring him in the last two games.
Apparently “the prospect of selling [Werner] has not yet been discussed” by Chelsea, but it sounds like it’s going from impossible to just very unlikely.
We can’t see it happening, unless some kind of part-exchange opens up for Haaland. But the direction of travel is not good for the former Leipzig man.
