Ben Chilwell explained his "disappointment" after Chelsea beat Liverpool 1-0 at Anfield.

The left-back played the full 90 minutes as Thomas Tuchel's men shut out the Reds and secured three points, thanks to a Mason Mount strike in the first-half.

That result leaves the defending champions languishing in seventh place, four point adrift of the top four and with two teams below them holding games in hand.

Jurgen Klopp's side did little to create or threaten in the match against Chelsea and Chilwell thought his team thoroughly deserved the victory - though admitted there could have been a greater margin in the contest.

"It was a brilliant performance," he told Chelsea's official website.

"All season we’ve been looking for a big win against one of the big teams and we thoroughly deserved this win.

"It was a great performance, everyone put a real shift in and the only disappointment was that it wasn’t by more goals because I think our play merited that.

"It’s an impressive run that we are on. Everyone will look at the clean sheets and the defensive work but that’s not just the back five and the goalkeeper. It’s the whole team putting the effort in.

"When you look at what the midfield, the wingers and the strikers are all doing defensively for the team, it’s pivotal as to why we are keeping clean sheets.

"Mason has scored a great goal to put us in front and then we’ve had the confidence to push on at Liverpool. It wasn’t a 1-0 game where we were hanging on either.

"There were spells when we were under pressure but you’re always going to get that at Anfield, but overall I think we’ve dominated the game, been the better side and thoroughly deserved to win."
