  • Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel believes Liverpool are missing their fans at Anfield
  • They are without a win in their last six home games and have lost the last four
  • The German admitted he knows all about the impact of the Merseyside crowd

Thomas Tuchel believes Liverpool are missing their fans after a run of four straight defeats at Anfield and admitted he knows all too well the impact the crowd can have.

The Reds have not won at home this year with Mohamed Salah's penalty against Manchester City the only time they have managed to find the back of the net.

Tuchel, who takes his Chelsea team to Merseyside on Thursday, admitted the absence of supporters has hindered Jurgen Klopp's champions this season.

'I am pretty relaxed. I am pretty sure Liverpool miss their fans,' Tuchel said. 'I know from experience the impact the Anfield crowd has on their team.

'Yes, they have dropped points, many times not deserved and they have had some unlucky results. They are one of the best teams in Europe but we are confident we can go there and do what we have to do to win.'

Tuchel has twice been on the wrong end of last-minute goals that have led to defeat at Anfield, results which he described on both occasions as 'not logical'.

In 2016, his Borussia Dortmund side were knocked out of the Europa League last 16 thanks to a 91st minute Dejan Lovren goal, which gave the Reds a 4-3 win on the night and 5-4 aggregate victory.

Speaking after that game, Tuchel said: 'I can't explain. I could explain something logical; that wasn't logical.'

The German suffered another last gasp defeat in 2018, this time with Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League group stage.

Thomas Meunier and Kylian Mbappe had brought the French side level after Daniel Sturridge and James Milner had given Liverpool a 2-0 lead. But Roberto Firmino won the game, again in the 91st minute.

'Maybe the score did not really tell the story,' Tuchel said following the defeat. 'The result is not correct or logical.'

Chelsea are in fifth place, one point ahead of Liverpool with both teams battling it out for a place in the top four. Tuchel admitted it was a big game for both sides but insisted the result will not determine the race for the Champions League places.

'We still have 12 matches to go, the result tomorrow will not be the end of the race for the top four. It is of big importance, I hope we can show up with the same mentality and attitude like the tough challenges we have had so far.

'These are the fixtures, going to Anfield as regular games. This is what you dream of as a player like me not at the highest level, normally you watch these games on TV. Now I am part of it, I am very grateful for it and it makes me feel alive.'
