Abraham pulls Chelsea through Barnsley test

Tammy Abraham scored his first Chelsea goal of the Thomas Tuchel era to help the Blues progress to the FA Cup quarter-finals last night, defeating Barnsley 1-0 at Oakwell.

Abraham netted the only goal of the game just past the hour mark to ensure the Blues set-up a last-eight tie at home to Sheffield United next month.

In a game of few chances for the visitors, Abraham stepped up to the plate to knock home Reece James' low cross and ensure Tuchel maintained his unbeaten start to life in charge.

However, Barnsley could have forced the game to extra time late on if it wasn't for Abraham's defensive heroics that saw him turn Michael Sollbauer's effort over the crossbar.

Those two match-winning contributions earned the former Bristol City and Aston Villa loanee the top mark in our Chelsea player ratings.

Johnson urges Chelsea to seal Alaba deal

Former Chelsea defender Glen Johnson believes out-of-contract Bayern Munich defender David Alaba would be a good place for the Blues to start with their summer recruitment drive.

The Austrian international, who can play at both centre-back and left-back, has been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge over the last few months as the race to land his signature intensifies.

Alaba, however, has not been the only defender to be linked with a switch to west London, with Dayot Upamecano of RB Leipzig also on the Blues' radar. For Johnson, though, Alaba is the player Chelsea are in need of most.

He said: "Chelsea would need Alaba the most. If they’re going to play with wing-backs he would be the ideal man because he’s an unbelievably good athlete and could play on the left of a back three or as a left wing-back.

"Alaba could fit at Liverpool, but as we’ve seen with big money defenders, City are the club that normally do that.

"If anybody needed him to slot into their formation right now that would be Chelsea."

Gallagher: 'I'm good enough' for the Premier League

Chelsea youngster Conor Gallagher has vowed that he is "good enough" to play in the Premier League after a string of fine showings for West Bromwich Albion this season.

After impressing whilst on loan at Championship sides Charlton Athletic and Swansea City last season, Gallagher was presented with the chance to test himself at the very top of the English game this season, joining the Baggies on loan at the start of the season.

Although West Brom have struggled upon their return to the Premier League, Gallagher has shown glimpses that he is ready to make a name for himself at this level.

As quoted by 'We Ain't Got No History,' the midfielder said: “I feel like I have improved a lot. I have shown people I can play at this level and I am good enough.

“I played 47 games in the Championship last season including the play-offs. I was at Charlton in the first half of the season and then Swansea in the second half of the season. They were both great loan spells for me even though they were both short I learnt a lot.

“With both teams I became a better player and better person and I did well, so I was ready to make the step up. Chelsea thought so too - they wanted me to play in the Premier League.

"So when West Brom wanted to sign me and there was a chance, I wasn’t going to turn it down. Ever since a young age, I have loved [football] and dreamed of playing in the Premier League.”
