Rio Ferdinand: “I think it’s inevitable” Chelsea will get their priority signing

Chelsea have been very quiet so far in this transfer window, but that was expected after the summer they had.

Former Manchester United and West Ham defender Rio Ferdinand believes there is a slight chance they could make one move this January, but this move will not be instigated by the player.

Which players could be leaving Chelsea this month? Find out here!

We are of course talking about West Ham midfielder Declan Rice, who is a Chelsea priority signing whether it is this window or the next, as explained by The Telegraph recently.

But there are currently no signs of it happening this month, and Ferdinand isn’t surprised by that.

He believes though, that Rice joining Chelsea this summer is now ‘inevitable’, he said on the latest show from the FIVE YouTube Channel.

Ferdinand is known to be a close friend of Lampard, having played together at West Ham in their early days. So his words are fairly significant on this subject.

He said:

“I don’t think he goes in this window. He stays there [at West Ham] until the end of the season.

“I don’t think he’s the type of kid who is going to push to leave right now.

“If it happens, it’ll be between the clubs. He won’t be the person to instigate it.

“I think it’s inevitable that he is going to go.

“If I’m being realistic it’ll be the summer, and it would be Chelsea if he gets his wish.”
