In our look at the latest Chelsea-related news stories from the media, the Blues are linked to Ali Akman and Stoke City ask Rob Green to come out of retirement.

Blues interested in Turkish striker

Chelsea are reportedly one of the Premier League clubs interested in signing Ali Akman.

According to the Daily Mail, the Bursaspor striker has caught the attention of many European elite clubs with his performances this season.

The report states that Red Bull Salzburg and Galatasaray tried to sign the player in December. The Blues and Arsenal have also joined the race and are reportedly looking at the situation.

Akman has six months left on his contract and is reportedly not signing an extension. Bursaspor are interested in hearing offers now rather than risk losing the 18-year-old for free in the summer.

The Turkish side values the striker at around £3 million but the pandemic’s effect on football clubs could force them to accept less. Alongside Chelsea and Arsenal, there is also interest from clubs in Germany and Italy.

Akman has netted nine times and recorded four assists in 17 games this season.

Stoke want Green comeback

Rob Green was contacted by Stoke City to come out of retirement after hanging up his gloves in 2019.

According to The Athletic, the Championship club tried to convince the goalkeeper to join them to fix their injury crisis.

Stoke manager Michael O’Neill lost goalkeepers Adam Davies (knee) and Angus Gunn (ankle) to injuries and Green was seen as an alternative.

However, the former Blues goalkeeper declined the offer. The report states that Green was told that he would be used as a back-up choice to Joe Bursik.

It is also understood that Green was not prepared to travel long distances to training during a pandemic only to be a substitute.

Green’s last professional appearance was in a Carabao Cup game for Leeds United against Newport County in 2017.

He was also Chelsea’s third-choice goalkeeper and was part of the side that won the Europa League in 2018/19.

Luton boss excited for Chelsea trip

Chelsea will face Luton Town in the next round of the FA Cup after our 4-0 win against Morecambe on Sunday.

Frank Lampard’s men will be playing at home again in the next round and Luton manager Nathan Jones is excited about the trip.

‘It’s a great draw against a wonderful Premier League side. We love testing ourselves and this will be a massive test,’ Jones said on his club’s website.

‘We are delighted we avoided someone from our league and it gives us something different to experience.

‘To go to such a prestigious Premier League club will be a special occasion which we’ll be looking forward to.’

However, due to the pandemic, the manager is upset that the fans won’t be able to experience this with his team just like how they couldn’t watch their team against Manchester United in the Carabao Cup this season.

‘In the one year we get unbelievable draws in a cup competition, there can’t be any supporters at either and that’s the thing I’m gutted about,’ he said.

‘Our supporters have been unbelievable and buying season tickets to keep this club going, and we will go there and make sure we do them proud.’
