Chelsea 4-0 Morecambe, Player Ratings: Hudson-Odoi stakes his claim

Community player ratings from Chelsea’s FA Cup third round victory

1. CALLUM HUDSON-ODOI (8.2)

Callum Hudson-Odoi scored for the second match running, scored for the third straight year in the third round of the FA Cup, and got the same post-match assessment from Frank Lampard as always: good, can be better. And that’s true, but at this point, the only way he’ll get better is with regular playing time.

Please.

2. MASON MOUNT (7.6)

Compared to the other two players in the top three, Mount’s practically an old fart now that he’s celebrated his 22nd birthday with a nice goal and a good individual performance. With focus, both good and bad, on other players in the squad, Money Mase has been quietly very consistent, and consistently good. And he’s just getting started.

3. KAI HAVERTZ (7.6)

Speaking of just getting started, Havertz played about as well as he ever has in the brief time since he’s joined Chelsea. Granted, the level of opposition was not great. But neither is having to deal with a non-mild case of COVID. Or not having a settled position. Or the outside pressures ratcheting up. He was looking stronger and more fit, and hopefully can continue recovering from there.
