“He’s making it now” – Frank Lampard admits young star is making a case for run in the team

Chelsea moved onto the fourth round of the FA Cup yesterday afternoon beating League Two side Morecambe 4-0.

The game was never expected to be a tough one, but these ties can often be banana skins (just ask Leeds!).

Chelsea did the job well and breezed into the next round. The star of the show and most people’s Man of the Match selection was winger Callum Hudson-Odoi.

The 20-year old is enjoying his best run of form since returning from a serious injury, and he has firmly staked his claim to be a regular for Lampard in the starting line up now.

He scored a lovely goal yesterday and his all-round game is just looking so much better, the confidence is back.

Lampard agrees, and admits that the youngster is now giving him a great selection headache by staking a claim for a run in the starting eleven.

As reported by The Daily Star, Lampard spoke after the game yesterday.

He said:

“Callum is playing well and improving. He has improved and there’s much more to come from him.

“But I think his application in training, his desire to look at his game, goals like today are a fantastic example.

“In terms of how long until he makes that case [for a run in the team]? He’s making it now.

“When everyone is fit we have maybe three natural wingers and he’s one of them. There’s always going to be a time when I have to make selection decisions.”
