Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has admitted Fikayo Tomori could leave on loan this month, a decision that will alert a host of Premier League clubs.

Burnley have been linked with the 23-year-old in the past and the Clarets are seeking cover for first choice pair Ben Mee and James Tarkowski.

Sean Dyche also has Kevin Long and Jimmy Dunne to call on, although the pair are both out of contract in the summer, while question marks remain over the long-term future of Tarkowski.

The England international was wanted by West Ham and Leicester City in the summer window and has said he has no intention of signing a new deal at Turf Moor with his current contract up in 2022.

Tomori could offer an option for Burnley should they go down the loan route with the youngster having struggled to make his mark at Stamford Bridge after a breakout campaign last term.

And Lampard said a move could well be in the offing for the England man this month.

“The situation with Fikayo is open at the moment,” Lampard told Football.London.

“There is a possibility he could be going on loan to get games somewhere else. So that would have to be the solution for him and the club. That was part of my thinking of not starting him today.

“I gave him some minutes at the end but while we were looking at that I wanted to make sure it was the right thing for the club and for him and individually. So that’s why he didn’t start.

“But his attitude, even though he hasn’t played much recently, has been fantastic in training and in how he is.”

Burnley have been heavily linked with Nottingham Forest defender Joe Worrall, a player they have a keen interest in.
