Kepa Arriazbalaga

This was the Spaniard’s 100th Chelsea appearance and there was a nervy moment early on as a cross from Adam Phillips almost caught out the goalkeeper. Fortunately he was able to recover and make a good stop.

The rest of the game was largely uneventful for the world’s most expensive goalkeeper. He had to stop a Kai Havertz header but that was pretty much it. A largely comfortable afternoon. 7

Cesar Azpilicueta

The Spaniard’s 401st game in a Chelsea shirt and he was rarely tested defensively. Instead he had licence to break forward into the final third and almost got on the scoresheet in the second half. Crossed for Kai Havertz’s late goal. 7

Kurt Zouma

A surprise starter, the Frenchman was rarely troubled by Morecambe forward Cole Stockton. There were a few loose passes but little else wrong from Zouma. 7

Antonio Rudiger

Looked a little rusty in the opening period but grew into the game. Had a chance to score from a corner in the first half that he volleyed over and, while the German was solid, there is very little chance of him ousting Thiago Silva; 7

Emerson Palmieri

Not a typical full-back display from the Italy international as he spent much of the game underlapping Hudson-Odoi and then Pulisic rather than overlapping.

Had a couple of efforts on goal in the first half, one of which required saving. Isn’t likely to displace Chilwell anytime soon. 7

Billy Gilmour

A deserved start for the 19-year-old who was controlled in possession and mopped up well in the Chelsea defensive third when called upon. Not as his eye-catching best but should be given more minutes in the games ahead. 7

Kai Havertz

Used in the number eight role once more, the German had a mixed first half. There was one risky header back towards his own goal that required saving and one at the opposite end of the pitch he glanced wide.

Havertz did make a telling contribution just before half time as he knocked down a Hakim Ziyech cross for Timo Werner to score.

He floated across the pitch in the second period and managed to get on the scoresheet late on, but there’s little doubt Chelsea are yet to see the very best of the 21-year-old. 7

Mason Mount

The midfielder has been Lampard’s to-go man throughout his tenure yet it was still a surprise to see him included in the starting XI on his 22nd birthday. Mount, as always, didn’t let Lampard down and drove home the opener from 25 yards.

He was Chelsea’s most-progressive passer during the first half and dovetailed with Hudson-Odoi nicely. His influence waned in the second period as other players stepped up, but it was another solid afternoon from Mount. 8

Hakim Ziyech

A second consecutive start for the Moroccan since returning from injury and he looked much sharper than against Manchester City. Produced several trademark crosses in the first half, one of which led to Werner’s goal.

He took control of the game in the second half. There were several neat touches and a lovely floated pass for Hudson-Odoi which the winger converted. Was brought off with 25 minutes to play, almost certainly to save him for Fulham on Friday. 9

Callum Hudson-Odoi

Used on the left of the front three, the 20-year-old was Chelsea’s biggest threat in the first half. He teed up Mount for the opener and linked up well with his fellow academy graduate throughout the opening 45 minutes.

Deservedly got on the scoresheet in the second half after he brought down a Ziyech pass and finished well and remained a constant threat. Has to start against Fulham. 9

Timo Werner

The German forward came into this game without a goal in 12 matches and spurned a couple of early chances. However, just before half time, he was on hand to touch home a Havertz knockdown from close range.

Wasn’t able to add another after the break but the goal should, at least partly, restore his confidence.
