Chelsea can improve in the next transfer window by adding three tough acquisitions to add steel to this small and anything but a physically dominant squad.

Chelsea’s performance to-date in the Premier League has been mixed. The euphoria experienced by fans as they racked up wins and points against inferior opponents was premature as was previously pointed out. The club hadn’t really beaten any really good team excepting Sevilla in the Champions League and the only top-half of the Premier League table team they had bested was West Ham, and that 3-nil win was far closer than the final tally showed. So what’s needed in January to get this team off the snide and into a period of real form? Here are some acquisitions that would help.

1. A dominant centerback

First, Chelsea needs a physically dominant central defender to rotate in with patriarch Thiago Silva and Kurt “Air” Zouma. Manager Frank Lampard obviously has little faith in his backup central defenders. In January, the club has to make moves to remedy this situation.

First, it should preferably sell or loan two of their current central defenders who are out-of-favor. That would be Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen, and Fikayo Tomori. Two must go and concomitantly, the club has to bring in one; a big, tough dominant enforcer. The team lacks that element.

The player brought in has to be talented enough to enter into a rotation with Silva and Zouma and have no drop-off in play whatsoever. That’s imperative No. 1. It’s been suggested that Niklas Sule at 1,95m (about 6’4″ tall) from Bayern Munich would fit the bill completely. He’d be an expensive addition, but one that would pay big dividends in the future as he is only 25 years old.
