Chelsea’s next three opponents all dealing with COVID-19 outbreaks as Fulham postpone Spurs match

The Tottenham Hotspur versus Fulham match that was supposed to take place in just about an hour has been postponed by the Premier League, and will be rearranged for a future date.

Fulham had requested the postponement after “a number” of players and staff had returned positive tests in the latest round of COVID-19 testing. They did not reveal exactly how big that number may be, but a record 18 positive tests were returned in said round overall, and the Premier League agreed to a similar request from Manchester City two days ago after they had seven players and staff out, reportedly.

In their statement, the Premier League remain confident that the two rumored two-week “circuit-breaker” is still unnecessary at this time.

With low numbers of positive tests across the overwhelming majority of clubs, the Premier League continues to have full confidence in its COVID-19 protocols and being able to continue to play our fixtures as scheduled.

With Fulham now dealing with an outbreak as well, joining the likes of Manchester City and Morecambe FC, Chelsea’s next three fixtures are all in some form of limbo. We’re currently still set to play City on Sunday (January 3), Morecambe the week after in the FA Cup (January 10), and Fulham the Friday after that (January 15).
