Following Boxing Day's 3-1 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, Chelsea will be desperate to get back to winning ways against Aston Villa on Monday evening.

After bringing an end to their two-game losing streak with a hard-fought 3-0 home triumph over West Ham United last Monday evening, the Blues were expected to travel across London and post another three-point haul against an Arsenal side who had failed to win any of their last seven league matches.

But goals from Alexandre Lacazette, Granit Xhaka and Bukayo Saka put the Blues to the sword, leaving Frank Lampard to reflect on a disappointing performance from his players, despite a late rally, which featured a third goal in his last two games from Tammy Abraham.

Though Saturday's result will have hurt Lampard, his players and the supporters, Chelsea will be grateful of the opportunity to quickly get themselves back on track against Villa, who will arrive in west London unbeaten in their last four matches without conceding a goal.

With the visit of Villa, who defeated Crystal Palace 3-0 on Boxing Day, acting as the Blues' second match in the space of just 48 hours, Lampard is likely to rotate his pack, with the fixtures continuing to come thick and fast at this time of year.

Despite Villa arriving at Stamford Bridge with form in their sails, Lampard is certain to make changes to his starting line-up after he was left furious with his side's performance against the Gunners.

Although the starting line-up will not be confirmed until an hour before kick-off, the Chelsea chief has already confirmed that Callum Hudson-Odoi will start against Dean Smith's side.

Chelsea: 2020 in review

Speaking to Chelsea's Fifth Stand app, Lampard said: “Callum was fantastic with his energy. That’s what we needed and why he will play in the next game. If Callum plays like that, then he can be a really serious player.”

So far this season, the England international has racked up just 13 appearances in all competitions, with only six of those coming in the Premier League.

But with Hakim Ziyech ruled out, Lampard is in need of someone stepping up to the plate and spark some creativity in the final third in his absence, with Hudson-Odoi being considered as that man.

With that in mind, Hudson-Odoi is likely to take up residency on the right-wing, meaning Christian Pulisic could return to his more familiar left flank, with Timo Werner's form coming under enormous scrutiny.

Werner is not the only player in danger of losing his place in the starting line-up, with Lampard highly likely to make changes, especially in midfield, as the likes of Jorginho and Billy Gilmour push for a starting berth.

Elsewhere, Olivier Giroud will be pushing for a return to the starting line-up after failing to get off the bench against his former club on Boxing Day.

Possible Chelsea line-up to face Aston Villa: Mendy; Arrizabalga, Silva, Zouma, Chilwell; Kante, Jorginho, Havertz; Hudson-Odoi, Giroud, Pulisic.
