Chelsea have a terrible record against the Premier League's biggest clubs this season, and they lost again on Boxing Day.

Arsenal were the latest club to down the Blues, with the under-fire Mikel Arteta guiding his side to a fine 3-1 home defeat of Chelsea courtesy of goals from Alexandre Lacazette, Granit Xhaka and Bukayo Saka.

The loss meant the west Londoners ended the day seventh in the Premier League, six points behind leaders Liverpool and with tough matches against Aston Villa and Man City up next.

It's been a mixed season for Chelsea who went on a brilliant unbeaten run but have also struggled against their rivals at the top of the table.

In fact, Chelsea have so far played six of the clubs that could be considered among the biggest eight in the division - and have not won a single one of the games!

Including themselves, Liverpool, Manchester United, Tottenham, Everton, Wolves, Arsenal and Man City are in this 'top eight' club ranking - and Chelsea have only picked up two points from their six matches played.

This dreadful form was enough for Rory the Chelsea fan to call into talkSPORT's Sports Bar on Saturday night to tear into Lampard.

“I just think Lampard needs to come and have a look at himself,” began Rory the Blue.

Chelsea vs Premier League's top eight clubs

The Blues have picked up only TWO points against the so-called top eight clubs this season

  • vs Liverpool - lost 2-0
  • vs Man United - drew 0-0
  • vs Spurs - drew 0-0
  • vs Everton - lost 1-0
  • vs Wolves - lost 2-1
  • vs Arsenal - lost 3-1

“He is abysmal. I’ll say it bluntly – he is abysmal.

“We have played six of the so-called top eight clubs, bar ourselves; we’ve played Man United, Tottenham, Liverpool, Everton, Wolves and now we’ve played Arsenal.

“We’ve scored two goals and taken two points from those games!

“From all those six games, every time Frank is in a position where we can actually move up the table, the team doesn’t – or cannot – perform.”

Andy Jacobs' scathing rant on Chelsea's Kai Havertz and Timo Werner - Havertz is 'Ozil Lite' and Werner must need glasses because he can't make a two yard pass!

It doesn't get any easier for Lampard over the next week either.

Monday's opponents Aston Villa are ahead of Chelsea right now and are one of the Premier League's best teams this season, while Man City visit Stamford Bridge on January 3 to perhaps further extend the Blues' terrible run against the big eight clubs.
