Chelsea Foundation beat the January blues by kicking off the New Year with a weekend of fun fixtures against Arsenal Foundation and West Ham United Foundation’s walking football teams.

The evening saw the three football clubs' foundations come together to play against each other, while showcasing their skills in front of family and friends.

Both male and female participants took part in the festival, with over 100 players and spectators in attendance as the walking football groups returned from the Christmas break.

January can be a month full of New Year’s resolutions to get fit again after the Christmas period, however it is also a tough month to find motivation. It is important to remember that any form of exercise can help reduce stress, improve self-esteem and more importantly in January, relieve depression tendencies.

Ellie Lock, Chelsea Foundation’s health and wellbeing project officer, said: ‘Tournaments like these are great fun for all involved, family and friends come to support and it’s a brilliant day out.

‘It’s always nice to see groups from other clubs come together for a high-level tournament. The main aim of walking football is always around social interaction and bringing people together, so it’s lovely to see that happen!’

David Williams, Arsenal Foundation’s walking football lead, said: ‘It was an excellent festival which was a great advert for walking football.’

Paul Stephens from West Ham United Foundation added: ‘It was a very high-standard tournament against some very strong teams.’
