Chelsea legend reveals one thing ‘Tottenham can’t do’ on the pitch right now

Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola has claimed the Blues’ superior quality in the final third proved the difference between them and Tottenham on Sunday.

Tottenham went into the clash at Stamford Bridge as underdogs, having already lost on three occasions to Chelsea this season with an aggregate scoreline of 6-0.

However, the North Londoners would have hoped to put up a better fight on Sunday as they headed into the game buoyed by their dramatic late comeback against Leicester just a few days before.

Antonio Conte’s men gave a decent account of themselves in the first half as they restricted the home side to a few chances and were unlucky not to take the lead when Harry Kane’s 41st minute was disallowed for a foul on Thiago Silva.

However, Thomas Tuchel’s men took control of proceedings with a quickfire double at the start of the second half, with Hakim Ziyech curling home a beauty before Silva turned in a set-piece.

Zola insisted the moments of magic that Chelsea were able to produce high up the pitch, proved the difference between the two sides.

He told Premier League Productions: “I think that was the difference. The big difference.

“Chelsea could produce such high quality in the last 20 meters. But that’s something that Tottenham can’t do. And it has been the big difference.”

We certainly had players who were capable of producing similar quality in the final third. However, the likes of Kane and Bergwijn were isolated for much of the game due to the overly cautious approach that Conte took.

While it was understandable why Conte took that approach following the Carabao Cup semifinal, I cannot help but feel we could have troubled the Chelsea backline had we shown a little more adventure earlier in the game.
